Abertoir is an annual horror and horror film festival held in the Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Ceredigion, Wales in November. The festival began as a three-day event and has grown since to a six-day schedule. Abertoir is Wales’ only horror festival and is a member of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation. As well as screening new big-budget horror films, classic and independent films form a large and important part of the festival line-up. Each year a short film competition is held, which showcases horror and fantasy short films from around the world. In addition to film screenings, the festival regularly features concerts, theatre shows and masterclasses in its line up.

The San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival is organized since its beginning in 1990 by the San Sebastian Municipal Board of Culture.

Considered to be the biggest fantastic film festival in Latin America, Fantaspoa is an ever growing, competitive, summer film festival in Brazil for the genre film lover.

The 17 day festival, uses 4 screening rooms and curates 150 films, with a small share of repertoire and homage screenings and the best of fantastic films made around the globe.

Fantaspoa has the following official sections: Short Film Competition (subdivided into live-action/animation and national/international); Ibero-American Feature Film Competition and International Competition. The festival also have special sidebars that change from edition to edition, such as animated feature films, documentaries, zombie films, panorama, among others. Each edition, the festival grants a total of around 20 awards in the different sections of the festival, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award, that was already presented to some of the greatest auteurs of the fantastic genre, such as Luigi Cozzi, Lamberto Bava, Ruggero Deodato, Claudio Simonetti, Stuart Gordon, David Schmoeller, Frank Henenlotter, Lloyd Kaufman and Simon Boswell.

Started in 1981 as an all fantasy film festival in Portugal, Fantasporto has grown into a general film event. This festival was the first to integrate the arts and sciences with the film world since its first edition in 1981. Concerts, art exhibitions, workshops, book presentations, theatre plays and street performances, all have been welcomed in festival. The Special Programme, existing as a parallel event within the film festival since 2009, has established this sector as a must for festival goers, with Architecture, Robotics or the Fine Arts as the highlights of the latest editions. Fantastic Fest is a the largest genre film festival in the United States and features the best in new science-fiction, fantasy, horror, animation, crime, Asian, and all around badass cinema. The event was created to offer exposure to genre films which are often overlooked by the traditional festival circuit. We strive to offer acquisition, media and exhibition opportunities for undistributed films as well as to spotlight upcoming genre theatrical releases and give audiences a chance to see 35mm prints of repertory classics.

We also strive to make the festival the most friendly, fun and exciting experience as possible for our out of town guests and visiting filmmakers. In addition to showcasing over 70 premiere genre features and 40 shorts, we host plenty of parties throughout the week as well as outings to local Texas institutions and always one serious barbecue run.

This Lund International Fantastic Film Festival shows numerous fantasy, horror, and sci-fi features and shorts at their event in Lund, Sweden.

The festival was founded in 1995 with the overall aim to help stretch the limits of the imagination, and to reinforce the intrinsic value of imagination in films. International competitions are held for both feature films and short films, and the festival also offers retrospectives, seminars and exhibitions related to fantastic film.

Since 2002 the festival awards the Méliès d’Argent to the best European fantastic feature film as well as a nomination for Méliès d’Or for best European fantastic short film. Since 2005 the festival also hands out the Finn the Giant award for outstanding contribution by a filmmaker in the fantastic genre.
