Media overview of 2014 Scifi Film Festival
Building on the success of Project SciFi short film competition in 2013, we are launching the SciFi Film Festival as a signature event for Parramatta, with $8,500 in cash prizes.
SciFi Film Festival is an annual event dedicated to celebrating all things science fiction in November.
This festival brings together in Parramatta filmmakers and enthusiasts to celebrate all things of the science fiction genre, the most creative and popular genre in the world.
2014 Competitions open to international entries
The Film Festival is now accepting submissions to the film festival of feature films, short films, music clips, documentaries, machinima and animations for a chance to gain exposure with $2,000 in cash prizes and awards. A selection from these submissions will be screened at our annual SciFi Film Festival. Closing date for submissions is Midnight 2nd November 2014.
Project SciFi is a 30 day competition for filmmakers, machinima makers and animators to make a 3 – 10min short film based on a randomly assigned subject and or elements.
Project SciFi begins, Friday, 3rd October 2014 at 7 pm (19:00) local time in each participating city and town. It ends, on the Sunday, 2nd November 2014 at 12 midnight (24:00) of that weekend local time.
SciFi Writing Competition invites creative writers to submit their sci fi short story of 5,000 words or less, with $500 cash prizes and awards. The winning story is then promoted on our website and showcased to the world. Closing date for submissions is 2nd November 2014.
SciFi on the Street is presented by Scifi Film festival and Autism Spectrum Australia is taking over Church St, Parramatta for scifi lovers and geeks to come as their favourite cosplay character. Designed as a charity day, offering families, friends and everyone a safe, festival experience.
Activities include a Cosplay parade and competitions with $1,000 in prizes, exhibitions, stalls and board games, both tabletop and life size, trade stands offering comic books, memorabilia, access to specialist Sci Fi craftspeople, Sci Fi games, software companies and more.
Church St, Parramatta will be closed between Philip and Market Street with restaurants and cafes offering their speciality foods and beverages and their facilities forming a colourful backdrop.
All donations collected on the day will go to the charity Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect).
Awards ceremony screens and showcases short and feature films and awards all prizes at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta on 16th November 2014.
